WHAT RATE OF PG / VG TO CHOOSE?
As we saw in our article dedicated to their composition, each e-liquid is made up of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG). Their proportion is however different according to the e-liquids and the brands. The level of vegetable glycerin indeed sometimes takes precedence over that of propylene glycol. What is the difference? And how do you choose the PG/VG ratio that suits you best?
A large proportion of the e-liquids available on the market respect a balanced ratio of PG/VG, that is to say, that these e-liquids contain as much PG as VG. We then speak of 50/50 e-liquids. This formula, ideal for beginners in vaping, allows you to take advantage of the advantages of each of these components, without suffering from their disadvantages.
The PG is much smoother than the VG. It also fixes the aromas slightly better and provides this feeling of hit which slightly scratches the throat and which former smokers are looking for in priority. On the other hand, it tends to dry out your vape.
For its part, vegetable glycerin is much thicker and greasy. If it slightly dilutes the bite of the flavors by softening the hit, it produces a lot of vapor and roundness in your vape. These two qualities can for example be sought by lovers of gourmet vaping.
A 50/50 PG/VG ratio lets you enjoy both worlds. It is also the ratio that will allow you to use the greatest number of different atomizers. You should know that some atomizers, due to the design of their resistance, absolutely require the use of 50/50 e-liquids. The arrivals of e-liquid from this type of resistance are often very small, and only a high rate of PG, more fluid, will allow them to be fed properly. A more “fatty” e-liquid, that is to say an e-liquid containing a high proportion of vegetable glycerin, will saturate these e-liquid arrivals more quickly and will force you to change your coils too often.
On the contrary, when your clearomiser (or your atomiser when you have switched to reconstructable) benefits from imposing arrivals of e-liquid , it offers you the possibility of enjoying e-liquids with a higher rate of vegetable glycerin. Your smoke will become denser and cloud chasing can begin!
There are many e-liquids highlighting vegetable glycerin. Beyond the balanced ratio of 50/50 that we mentioned earlier, vegetable glycerin levels can thus vary from 60 to 100%! The higher your level of vegetable glycerin, the rounder and denser your vape will be, but the larger the e-liquid inlets of your clearomiser or atomiser will also have to be!
